Streets are worse, houses are older, and restaurants are not as nice as Orange County. And it's even more expensive here. But I didn't move here for the "quality of life." I moved here because Silicon Valley is still the center of the tech world, despite all its shortcomings. By the way, I live not too far from One Infinite Loop ... a.k.a. Apple headquarters.
