Umm ok.. let me rephrase that...going from 3 workers to 1 retiree means (where we have a deficit already..) to 2 workers to 1 retiree means (In my opinion) A) Taxes will have to markedly be increased B) Benefits reduced C)Retirement age will have to be increased. D) Some or all of the above.

That was an error in demographic anomally that Alan Greenspan has acknowledged.

The demographics of the US have gotten better for Social Security since the Greenspan commission of 1983, not worse (the US birthrate and immigration increased markedly afterwards..). Greenspan has aptly demonstrated his marked inability to make reasonable predictions about the future based upon available data. I am pretty sure I remember articles at the time that predicted that a crisis would reoccur in the relatively near future.
