There is an immigration bill in the works that combines more enforcement with a guest worker program IIRC. Obama has already done much more than Bush to step up border enforcement and deportations, to the point where the legal system can't handle any more deportation proceedings, their backlog is through the roof. I haven't read much about it lately because healthcare and financial reform sucked up all the time and energy that Congress had, leaving immigration and energy waiting at the altar. Thanks to our good friends in the Republican leadership of both Houses.
