Tradable Citizenship is the answer. When incentives are right, people do much more sensible things than when incentives are wrong. Of course politicians and electorates vote according to their incentives. Change those incentives and you'll get a different result.

We can blather about what should happen in some theoretical abstract idealization - but what is happening, and what has been happening for decades argues strongly against the conceptual claptrap being propagandized, astroturfed and propagated as "truth".

But hey, why worry? Let's raise a glass of wine and toast this madcap world of ours, where reason and the preponderance of evidence mean SFA.

The "Imbecile" and "Moron" Responds: On the Freedoms of Remix Creators
Lawrence Lessig | October 15, 2010

Last week, I spoke on a panel at Vimeo's Festival+Awards. The title of the panel was "Know your digital rights." Paul Miller, aka, DJ Spooky, was the other panelist. Vimeo's General Counsel, Michael Chea, was the moderator.

I had been invited to the conference because I was a judge in a contest that Vimeo had held. My job, with a handful of other judges, was to select the best "remix" video. More than 50 remix videos were finalists in the contest. We had a tough time finding the very best vimeo.com .
