My instant reaction, however unfounded, is that there's no way they could hire an outsider for the job. They'd be mortified. An insider is a "friendly" accountant.

I wonder if it ever crossed their mind that they need someone to
sell their product and not a new officer to "count" their money.

Actually it has.. they're currently looking for a Director of
Contracts and Administrations I believe.
