i thought china was a usa ally in the great war as well, or, given that china went into the war first, usa was an ally of china, morew correctly. however, whichever the case, i cannot say china was better off immediately afterwards.

China became a Communist country in 1949...

It suffered while Taiwan prospered...

you are wrong in so far as japanese transparency is concerned because you know nil about japan, obviously. what was there is still there, just not recognizable to the likes of you.

Certainly that's the case.. Entrenched cultural and political institutions are not easy to dismantle. But they can be managed and held accountable to the people via the democratic process when they get out of line and act to the detriment of the entire society. Some would suggest that, here in the US, we're reaching such a point with the Financial elite on Wall Street.

Btw, if this is the case with Japan, is it not also the case with Bejing? Might one be able to state that China is a hybrid Fascist/Communist state, where a prosperous private sector has been chained to the will of the state. That private sector will be tolerated until it reaches the point where it threatens the control of the political authorities in charge.

As for the US being a deadbeat in payments to the UN, that's very debatable. There are a tremendous number of voluntary contributions that the US makes which are not compensated by the UN, nor counted towards are annual assessment. IOW, the US is more apt to pay for those specific missions it deems worthwhile, rather than funding the general UN budget which it believes is wasted, or lost to fraud and embezzlement.

This also fails to mention the costs the US incurred cleaning up the mess the UNSC incompetency created in dealing with Iraq.

Fundamentally the UN is a flawed, and primarily dysfunctional, organization. And a primary cause of that dysfunction is due to permitting non-democratic governments to possess veto power in the UNSC. So I think it well within the right of the US congress to exert financial pressure on the UN to make the necessary reforms that are being demanded.

does or does not the us military kill babies? yes or no?

Does the Chinese government kill babies with their one child policy? How many millions of Chinese babies were killed by forced abortions policies?

It's all a matter of perspective BJ.. You need to get out of HK and live amongst the Chinese masses on the mainland.

And I know the US military SAVES far more children than they may unintentionally kill. Anyone who is familiar with the US soldier understands that the majority of us who have served are particularly focused on bettering the lives of children in these devastated, and/or oppressed, societies.

We understand that the children are the future of that society. And while we may not be able to effect much positive change amongst the adult population, we can make a difference by educating and providing for their children.
