Alec, do you have a margin account and you equity level falls below the 35% limit? I am pretty nervous myself because of my current margin level. Where is a good brokerage house to move to? Etrade does suck and I hope that its stock will plummet and shorters will win the war. However, my friend ignorantly bought EGRP stock and made 40% in July. I am jealous of that guy's luck but I have no feelings for this crappy company.

...whenever you call a broker and put and order in, you can send the cash in within 3 days. HUH??? Not with my full-service broker, you can't. And I suspect the SEC would be surprised to hear about this rather doubtful practice. Yes, if you get a house call you can wait to settle; fed calls are dicier; but in my experience you can't buy a damned thing with money you've "promised" to send. What you suggest is leverage that goes WAY beyond what's allowed by law.
