I believe the word "charlatan" has definite and important meaning but I admit I don't have a clue on the standard needed to prove someone is a charlatan in a legal sense.

In the same way I don't know how to define truth or beauty, I kind of know it when I see or feel it.

Newt's Kenya anti-colonial nonsense was part of longer remarks he made that were linked to here. No one is distorting their points by picking out some quotes because they never walk them back in a wider context that I have ever seen.
