BC,

Yes, three times and I did not have one. Twice in Detroit with crackheads and I was not in the real bad area. One time we just blew him off and the second time I turned the tables and put the fear of god in this fool.

The other time I was trapped in the middle of a robbery in Ft. Lauderdale. In that case I had to make a choice to fight a dood with a gun or make like a ninja and vanish. I left my purchases on the floor and this guy was so high strung he didn't even notice me slip out the door. If I had a gun, I would have ended him, as he was pure criminal trash and it would only be a matter of time before he killed someone innocent.

There is a funny part to this story. After fleeing, he and his partner (who was driving) drove the wrong way into a car wash in a effort to escape the police. Me and a half dozen people watched in disbelief as their car attempted to drive through the wrong way. And, these idiots still got away (or at least as far as the few blocks we could, for the cops were way slow to respond).

You never need a gun until you need one. And you cannot reason with a crackhead.
