I don't like permanent unemployment either. Not makework, but stuff like say, needed infrastructure repair/replacement. I agree with the goal and sentiment, but can you imagine the field day the right wing would have with this in terms of government expansion? How do you keep the electorate from buying into the inevitable right wing cynical attacks and therefore losing political power and thus the initiatives you describe in your post...just as is happening now? Ten seems to think drawing unemployment consists of applying, then putting your feet up on the couch and waiting for the checks while you watch Oprah! For most it's a humiliating experience... Al
