Mark, RE:<It looks like Deschutes is addressing a tiny market. How many servers are going to be sold with > 4 processors?>

Windows NT 4.0 stinks at even the 4 processor level. Intel is *hoping* that NT 5.0 will correct these problems. As others have said, hard disk speed is much more important than CPU speed. Memory speed is also more important than CPU speed, i.e., SDRAM vs. EDO.

Mark - Re: "It looks like Deschutes is addressing a tiny market. How many servers are going to be sold with > 4 processors? How fast will the market develop? Why is the market for quad systems so small today? Won't it get even smaller with faster CPU speeds?"

IDC reported that 1997 x86 Server shipments will be about 1,700,000.

Intel is predicting a 30% CAGR (Compund Annual Growth Rate). However, IDC is predicting a much slower growth rate.
