<I guess it depends how you define "intelligence"?? Our cells don't "think" the way that you and I do, do they?? They certainly don't get morose and drink vodka and find the problem is better (or worse)?? I guess we could claim they walk and talk and throw a rock--but are they MAKING CHOICES??>

They absolutely exhibit intelligence by any measure.. no ramdomness, meaninful responses, plasticity of function, etc. etc.:

Making choices? Hell yes... the most dreadful choice is to rebel and go nutz. It's called cancer. The hottest thing in medicine right now is cells that haven't "chosen" where to fit in yet... they're called 'stem cells'.

Really, all living things "choose", that's what makes us alive. Put food in water, the bacterial move towards it, put in poison, they move away.

<"YOU become part of a greater whole like your cells are part of you">

If the universe is holographic, which is just starating to be studied, then one would assume, whether we are aware of it or not (is your liver cell aware it is part of you?) we are part of a greater whole.

All the religious traditions have this in there somewhere... even Christianity, despite the powers that be mucking with it so thoroughly.

<No Fault to them.>

Agreed... I think it was the Buddah who (more directly) taught the only "sin" (dont think they had the same meaning as ours) is "ignorance". Didn't Jesus say something like that on the cross (supposedly?).
