A large multinational firm just took over his company and just cut the salaries of everyone in his office by 1/3-2/3rds. My dad went in to complain to the new boss, who said "Shut up. Remember you're all replaceable." My dad's earnings, which weren't much to begin with, were reduced a lot. But there's nothing available in his area that even pays as much as he's making now, and he's in his upper 50s anyway so no one else will hire him. So I'll probably end up supporting him eventually. I guess that's just the way our economy works these days. -Z
