Dave, nothing out of the ordinary really---The Analyst/Investor speak according to where his money is. He interprets any News to suit his purpose:---after he sells, he wants the market to go down in order to buy back at lower prices; after he buys lower, he wants the market to go Up...He doesn't care whether any News will be proven True or False later; all he is after now is that the News served his purpose...

<<...all the analysts are saying that asia is a small part of the US business, therefore it will not have any impact>>

ALL the analysts? Come on, now, most of them are jumping on the downgrade bandwagon (AFTER the sector has dropped 30 or 40 per cent!) What I want to know is, where were these guys when AMAT was at 108 pre-split?

Do you know what this specific analyst was saying before the decline? He is said to specialize in the semiconductor equipment sector, so it would be interesting to know.
