I've never paid much attention to short interest. O shows twenty four days to cover and according to the chart at that site, their short interest is lower than any time in the last year. Short interest was up end of 2009 and beginning of 2010. Probably Ackman followers when he stated he was shorting it.

Short interest doesn't affect dividends. In fact, the shorts have to pay the dividends.

Since I'm looking to own HIGH QUALITY companies and hold them in the Warren Buffett style of investing, I'm not concerned with share price.

All I want is for the company to take care of their day to day operations and keep growing the income.

I don't want to be in a position where I have to liquidate to make money.

I'm counting on company profits to make me money because the companies I'm buying are share holder friendly with sharing those profits.

I don't own CINF but I've looked at it. I would own HGIC, CB and then CINF in that order when it comes time. I don't own any of them yet. But, if I wanted CINF, I wouldn't let short interest stop me.

When I bought O, the short interest was staggering. I'm up almost 40% on capital gains alone since I purchased it. They lost. Keep paying those high monthly dividends shorty! <lol>

Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

that seems like a lot.

that IS a lot, but when they are wrong, such as in NFLX, it can cause the stock to make a nice move. Someone on this board is from Cincinnati, and knows the bank well. Maybe he will chime in with more hands-on information.
