Why have hedge funds simply left?

I think the reason the gap between bonds and stocks exists - and has continued to exist - is that bond prices have been inflated by government buying and front running. Since that's the case, presumably yields should be higher and the gap between bonds and stocks should be smaller. Bottom line, with the extent of government intervention, any reliance on historic comparisons like this are meaningless, IMHO.
