MARTINSBURG, W.Va.—In the battleground state of West Virginia, voter dissatisfaction with the Odumbama administration is threatening to spoil the Senate bid of Democratic Gov. Joe Manchin, despite his widespread popularity.
Mr. Manchin, who was seen until recently as a safe win for Democrats, suddenly finds himself losing ground in two polls to John Raese, a wealthy Morgantown, W.Va., businessman who lost two prior Senate bids and has never held elected office. Mr. Raese has spent $500,000 of his own money so far on his campaign, whose momentum has drawn the support of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which launched a $1.2 million campaign on Friday in support of Mr. Raese.

In a poll released Tuesday by Democratic Public Policy Polling, Mr. Manchin was behind Mr. Raese by three points, yet had an approval rating of 59%. In a Rasmussen poll released Monday, Mr. Manchin had a seven-point edge over Mr. Raese compared to a 15 point lead in August.
