Isolated tariff campaigns are very rarely successful. We are talking here about global upheaval, global trade war, reset. America could start a successful global trade war because it's going to be very difficult for the rest of the world to maintain free trade, if there is no gargantuan US trade deficit to grease the wheels of global trade. Most countries dislike to trade, if they run consistent trade deficits.

PS. I think you are taking things that I write as if they represent my beliefs. Most of the time I talk theoretically. A global trade war is a very low probability event. I am merely pointing out that in a post-apocalypse world countries that are least dependent on trade for essential goods and are largely self-contained will come out winners.
