I think the new wave of stock market participants may have been trained to embrace the short side more than many might suspect.

New wave participants have certainly been using ETFs more, both long and short. I have done the very same thing.

But the more conservative 401K mutual fund money seems to be bailing out, and increasingly so since the "flash crash".
