TBS,

I agree that China's currency manipulations are not the crux of the problem, but they do add to the trade deficit and it reeks of mercantilism (beggar they neighbor).

And I'm growing increasing uncomfortable with Bejing's attitude towards their global responsibilities as an economic power. It strikes me as one focused on exploitation and intimidation without social conscience.

As for Walmart, there are a TON of other lesser developed countries, many right here in the Americas, who can produce most of the goods they sell. I, for one, would rather see India be the focus of western investment. At least they share common democratic values that are lacking from Bejing.

I think the Chinese people deserve better than the current government they have, and certainly better than recipients of disdain and indifference, as seems to be the view of the HK "elite" like TJ.

China has a huge amount of potential, as evidence by it's entrepreneurial citizenry. But until it's political system is unleashed and accountable to it's people, I have a great fear that all that's been accomplished is giving it's Maoist Communist government an economic shot in the arm that will enable it to fulfill an expansionist agenda.

Hawk
