Of course education should be run locally and "mandating prayer in schools" has nothing to do with that. If a federal education department was necessary, how did we ever manage for so long without it? Now your question, why do we need Christianity? There are many things one could say about that but I'll just keep it very general and say that western civilization, its values, and what most of us think of as right and wrong, are based on Christianity. Why don't we practice human sacrifice as your pagan European ancestors did? Because of Christianity. Why don't we practice infanticide and kill people for amusement as the Romans did? Christianity. There's a lot more that could be said here but I'll just throw that out for ya.
