OTOH if your willing to do so, there isn't any need for any tax increases. The budget will move to balance without any other changes being necessary.

I also said that I would support policies that put social programs are on solid footing...so for me the freezing of spending would be more of an incentive to put our house in order.

Look our political system is broken...really broken...conservatives came to power in 2001 and immediately proceeded to cut taxes 3 times, putting crisis back into a tactical budget that had been handed to them in decent shape. Then they added to the strategic problem with entitlements like part D...all of which was done on borrowed money. Now both sides are calling for extending tax cuts that were enacted with an expiration date...republicans are referring to these as "tax increases"...and they are bickering over $700B for the top 2% omitting to say that the total bill for these cuts is closer to $4T...and neither side really knows how to cut spending without alienating one or more important electoral constituency...so the political system is manipulated by both sides in an effort to remain in office and little or no constructive debate is taking place...and you and I are wasting time discussing the veracity of a CBO report....frankly at this point, W_GaS (who gives a s...?). There are bigger fish to fry...
