By Andrea Damewood Columbian Staff Reporter Monday, September 20, 2010 Just a half hour after Vancouver City Councilor Jeanne Harris issued a formal apology for her part in an explosive city council meeting last Monday, she sent a different message to her colleagues. From her public e-mail account with the city, Harris, who owns an Allstate Insurance branch in Battle Ground, sent a terse, three sentence message to the city manager, city attorney and city council Wednesday. “Looks like I’ve lost two policies and we’ve received numerous rude phone calls that my 19 year old customer service rep has had to listen to,” Harris wrote. “Apparently the gavel incident is now on utube (sic). Thanks for making my life hell.” Harris was referencing an incident captured on video by anti-tolling advocates Sept. 13 and posted on YouTube as “Council Member MELTDOWN.” During the meeting, Harris lost her temper, calling on Mayor Tim Leavitt to “gavel down” an anti-tolling speaker after he and others addressed individual city council members. After Leavitt allowed the speaker to continue, she packed up her bag and left the chambers herself. Harris called into question Councilwoman Jeanne Stewart’s motives for defending the anti-tolling speakers, saying that Stewart was in collusion with them. When Stewart said that was not the case, Harris scoffed, “Get out of here.” She also told Stewart to “shut up,” after Stewart told Harris she “needed to fix herself” and “to get sane” when Harris confronted her colleague after the meeting. The e-mail irked several of those who got it. While none would speak on the record about it, recipients felt like the action completely negated the Harris apology.

"Harris has also said that she felt she was provoked subtly by Stewart into losing her temper and has said that she is going through a very difficult divorce." Ah, the husband about to be ex--- I figured her hormones were out of whack, giving her the benefit of doubt about her rudeness--------close to it, but seems she has personal problems that are being carried into her political work-----into the board room. Aside from all of this---------seems that transportation that affects the local level should be considered in the local board room. Who better than the local officials to express the concerns of the local citizens who will be affected or to provide an open forum for citizens to speak.
