It's always a problem for people who decide to suddenly pursue a political career, the stuff in their past they shouldn't have done, when they lived a private life. Where a professional pol like Brown knows not to have done it, or to have kept it secret. George W. Bush had a full-time family lawyer trotting after HIM, tidying up the messes, etc.
