Not quite so. While our founding fathers set up a democracy, the revolution was over "taxation without representation", something more an abuse of colonies than England itself. Otherwise, most people were content with English-style monarchy, which guaranteed under the Magna Charta (1215), "the Rights of Englishmen".>>
