The only new force in politics is far out to the right where they should form a formal Tea Party or American Conservative Party and organize around that.

Yes, but the republicans seem to be following this rightward march, which leaves a big empty hole in the middle - The Center.

If democrats try to grab that center group, they risk alienating those on the far left. Aren't we seeing that happen to some extent already? I would dearly like to see a third party with enough politicians to force compromise between the middle and either extremes. Might get some stuff done then?

I also read the Freedman column this morning since I've been thinking that we are in some sort of crucial moment of political change. Wasn't impressed so I decided not to post it. I'm not certain Benen's right but it's a better argument than Freedman.

My latest campaign is Ezra Klein and Steve Benen for regular NYTimes op ed columns. But they get to keep their day jobs with lots of blog posts.
