The crops survived warm periods and cold periods, before they where engineered to their present state. No that we can engineer them, they can be adjusted faster than they would have adjusted themselves in the past. "Because he's prominent and because many people pushing very expensive action against global warming believe his disaster scenarios are likely." Uh, no Tim. Yes, he is prominent. Yes, he takes the extremes. But that isn't pushing policy except in the wingnut dreams. He's not successfully controlling current policy, and he isn't likely to be able to do so in the near future, but people are indeed pushing policies based on the scenarios that he presents.
