During the last couple of decades, the wastrelism has been concealed because a billion Chinese have worked flat out to produce mountains of goods at a tiny fraction of the cost of employees in the rich countries. Chinese will of course require pay as their economic situation improves as they save mightily while the dissolute debtors of the world vote to rob savers who loaned money. I would not work hard to save US$ though I admit my US$ denominated assets such as QCOM are just US$ in another form - any day a gang of gun-toting marauders can scale the ramparts of Congress and require my assets be transferred to them. Heck, there aren't any ramparts - they could just walk up the steps. In fact, they can just vote themselves rich without leaving their home town. They have been doing that for decades, but outright confiscation is another option a vote can do. Alcoholics and drug addicts seem to keep doing it until they die. But some do recover. Will Americans go back to capitalism, freedom, private property and self determination, repay their loans and live a life of Virtuous Victorian Values? It seems unlikely. With 30% obesity, there is a small proportion of potential pole climbers. Your job is safe. "Hey, I've got an idea, let's lose 30 kg, get a real job involving customers, pay off our debts and live a life of freedom and VVV?" Not many would vote for that when they are looking for expanded welfare, not less and government jobs are the only game in town. Mqurice
