George, No affiliation!! On another note: From Briefing INTERNET-PHONE STOCKS: Some say the market potential simply isn't there. That the quality of reception is simply too fuzzy. Or maybe they argue that making a phone call over the Internet doesn't provide that much of a cost advantage over telecommunications companies that are selling long-distance calls at ten cents and less per minute. Whatever the argument may be, there is one undeniable fact: Internet-phone companies are growing like gang busters. In fact, this sector has one of the highest expected five-year growth rates of any area of technology. For instance, industry leaders such as IDT Corp (IDTC) and Vocaltec Limited (VOCLF) are expected to log long-term growth of 40% and 50%, respectively. Another thing that differentiates this group of stocks from the majority of the Internet, and also helps to silence naysayers, is that these companies are expected to actually make money; and soon. A pretty far out concept isn't it. After all, why spend $2 per minute to Asia or a buck a minute to Europe when you can do it for almost free via the Internet? Today, Hambrecht & Quist is taking advantage of recent weakness in this sector to recommend one of the companies that has been around the longest, IDT Corp, with an initial "strong buy" rating. According to the firm, IDTC is just beginning to tap the potential of its Internet telephony product offerings. In fact, IDTC shares have become a favorite of Wall Street firms over the past month, with Alex. Brown starting with a "buy" on 10/23 (price at the time $20.75) and Sterne Agee & Leach starting with a "strong buy" and a 12-month price target of $29 on 10/13 (price at the time $19). Earnings Estimate '98 P/E (Based on '98 estimate) Price/Sales Ratio IDT Corp (IDTC) $0.74 23.65 1.53 Vocaltec Limited (VOCLF) -$0.03 n/a 1.63 Netspeak Corp. (NSPK) -$0.12 n/a 50 Kind of gives you goosebumps when you think of everything Franklin has going.
