Dennis:

I'm no techie. I don't even like to post here because I'm so ignorant. FWIW my best guesses: GMR dramatically more difficult to produce and not needed yet on the market except at the bleeding tech edge. IBM is simply asserting that it is the technology leader, and perhaps, protecting its stock price with the timing of this release. I had not expected for months yet. And we won't see much volume production for quite a while.

The gloom and doom regarding APM is probably an overreaction, though they will have to accelerate the transition to MR. And they will have wretched results the next couple of quarters no matter how things develop. I too hate to sell into a panicky market.

Help guys. I'm way over my head.

Leo

A link to further tech info was posted on APM's thread describing the GMR technology; worth reading.

I heard during the last RDRT cc they answered a question re: GiantMR. I don't remember what they said but it seemed like they had some kind of program and it was running well. Does anyone remember exactly what it was? Looking beyond RDRT and APM, what about TDK and Yamaha? Is there any news about their pursuit of GMR?
