Jubimer, you point out that the Ampex presentation said:

<<Future Head Technologies (Spin Valve/GMR/CMR)
-Keeper substantially reduces self-demagnetization of thin media films
-Required for performance of future head technologies>>

It would seem from this that Ampex felt back in January that
KM was required for use with GMR heads. In the Ampex 10Q I dont
recall them mentioning GMR, just MR. I am not so familier with
the technology, but do you think GMR and MR are close enough
that the R&D effort they have been putting into MR would also
directly apply to GMR... or put another way, since they knew
about it, do you think they did much about it or passed it off
as distant stuff and focused on MR only? (I suppose only Ampex
can really answer this)
