That prognostication is based on thinks like the colour of chicken blood. La Nina this time is mild. NOAA is predicting a warmer than usual winter." I'm not in the 1000 year record cold winter camp either. Certainly not any more than I am in the 1000 year record warm camp. And most of all, I am not in a global climate disruption camp. But I will go out on a limb and take the opposite prediction from NOAA's "warmer than usual winter". That is assuming that that is the correct prediction. I personally haven't seen the official NOAA winter prediction. Last January I predicted 15 named storms with 7 reaching hurricane status for the western Atlantic. We've had 14 named storms with 7 reaching hurricane status. That prediction was done without the benefit of all of the climate models that the AGW crowd has at their disposal. I just used common sense in my prediction. Just like I am doing with my prediction for this coming winter. My prediction for the northern hemisphere average winter temperatures for 2010/2011 season is this. "average to slightly below average temperatures". Of course, some areas may see warmer temperatures and some might see much colder temperatures...but the average will be...somewhere near...average. So in 6 months we can come back and see if an ignorant hack behind a laptop with his pajamas on is better at predicting weather cycles than all of the experts at NOAA with their degrees and computer models. JXM's 100 year climate forecast: some cooling on the order of about 0.5C. There is a reason that the "Chicken Little" fable is a part of our human history. And there are eastern fables that parallel the same theme. Do you remember the basic plot of the story? From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org There are several western versions of the story, but the best-known concerns a chick that believes the sky is falling when an acorn falls on her head. She decides to tell the King and on her journey meets other animals who join her in the quest. After this point, there are many endings. In the most familiar, a fox invites them to his lair and there eats them all. Alternatively, the last one, usually Cocky Lockey, survives long enough to warn the chick and she escapes. In still others all are rescued and finally speak to the King.,/i> There are many examples in history where people have used hysteria about perceived or fabricated threats to manipulate the masses for their own benefit. In the climate change story, you can guess who are the chicken littles. And Al Gore, GE, and Goldman Sachs are the foxes. Listen to Cocky Lockey. Do not go into the fox's den!!! The sky is NOT falling!!!! Message 26869563
