BS, that's BS. <we have chimp-style hunter-gatherer found-wealth Kinda like the Empire upon which the sun never set ... A bunch of hunter gatherers in ships .. >

The reason the great and glorious British Empire was so successful was the same reason that the USA Empire was so successful. Both were founded on trade and Enlightenment and Virtuous Victorian Values.

What the British Empire did was provide a lingua franca for hordes of bare bum barbarians who were operating much closer to hunter-gatherer levels of economic activity. It provided a huge trading mechanism. It provided common law. Private property. Contract law. Money that worked much better than chicken, fish and other bartering. A scientific and technological revolution. It provided a political system. It enabled escape of individuals from their barbarian tribal serf or slave states to become full members of the British Empire which they were keen to do.

The USA Empire is far more extensive and far more powerful than the British Empire ever was. The USA Empire didn't force me to send my money to them. Or force me to invest in Qualcomm to pay swarms of Geeks from around the world to invent CDMA phragmented photons so that TJ could pay loads of loot to me to buy and use one.

Neither did the British Empire conquer their way around the world. They used cash flow and trade. The USA at 4% of the world population and the British Empire at some similarly minuscule number couldn't simply take over by force against people's will.

Zimbabweans were much better off being ruled by the British Empire than by Mugabe. They are fleeing in droves from his untender and barbarian methods.

Maoris were once British Subjects and could freely roam the world. Now they are locked up back here again since the British Empire ended and the drawbridge was pulled up. That's not an improvement.

The next stage of history, which has not ended despite the famous claim, is Tradable Citizenship. The freeing of humans from the yoke of state serfdom. Being a state-owned chattel is not freedom. Americans make great play of "freedom" but they are mere state chattels. They can sell their own personal property and flee, but they can't sell their share of the state and go somewhere else. Neither can anyone else.

The next big move in history will be to Tradable Citizenship. TJ talks about Hong Kong allowing free migration to those who buy enough of a building. That is a trend in the right direction.

Francis Fukuyama declared democracy to be the end of history. Apparently Marx and Hegel and others have discussed such ideas: wesjones.com

Mq declares the end of history is not yet. First there needs to be Tradable Citizenship for 3D life. There is rising a far more important "country" than the temporal states of history and that is Cyberspace. Already I depend far more on Cyberspace than on my territorial bounds for my existence. I therefore owe more loyalty to Cyberspace than to my Prime Minister and his kleptocrats leading our little Hippie Commune in the South Pacific.

Just as country towns have remained static for decades as their economic foundations reached their zenith, while Auckland and a few other desirable places have boomed, similarly New Zealand has more or less reached its economic zenith and now Cyberspace is taking over as the main economic growth country.

The Cyberspace Empire is going to be far more powerful than China, or the USA, or the British Empire. Tradable citizenship for 3D life and Cyberspace citizenship for economic and cognitive life.

The Great and Glorious British Empire set us sailing to that great adventure. You are reading these words in the lingua franca of that Great and Glorious Empire. Lingua franca is a great english word, like sushi and glasnost.
