you still do not get it

No. You don't get it. You're not an astute enough student of totalitarian power.

china govt is terrified of the people

What two choices does any illegitimate government face when it is terrified of social unrest?

It either flees, or it lashes out against any threat it perceives endangers it's authority.

What is the threat to Bejing? Capitalist expectations of it's people, IMO.

The government in Bejing is illegitimate.

The US government is not. Each political party fears temporarily losing it's power, but it will still be a minority player in the political game.

This is not the case in China. And when Bejing lashes out, HK will not be spared because it no longer can expect the military protection of either the UK or the US.

You've been warned.
