If we were going out of town, we'd take the other car that has a gasoline engine. But if you're only driving 30-50 miles a day, who gives a shit how much gas it burns? iPod batteries got better after the initial release. Cell phone batteries got better. I can't see why this will be any different. 10 years from now, they could start looking like a solution.
