<< Francis Am I correct that you think that it is a good thing-- The A: designation for the Zip that is. >>

Absolutely. No-one mentioned it, but I guess Micron still offers the option of a 1.44 as B: Up till now ZIPs have been rather alien devices -- even the internal ones -- but once it comes with the machine as Drive A:, you have a new Standard device. That said, I'll be more impressed when some of the bigger boys follow suit. HP next? Dell? My problems all along with Iomega have been software issues -- there's nothing more damaging than Stuff that don't Work and this certainly had something to do with Herb Greenberg's earlier recounting of complaints.

RE: The A: designation for the Zip&#153

Being the A drive is wicked cool....
We have an old 486 that has a 5 1/2" floppy as the A, and "new" 3 1/4" as B.

Later, as the 3 1/4" became the standard, it PC manufactures made that the A and the 5 1/2" became the B.

Then CD ROMs became D and 5 1/2" disapeared.

My new Compaq came with the internal Zip&#153 as D and the CD and E.

I would think that making the Zip&#153 the A is evidence that the days of the 3 1/4" are numbered and the Zip&#153 is the new standard.

In other matters, why would anyone be selling IOM at these prices right before Comdex? This countdown thing is more exciting than Christmas!
