The AMT has required an annual fix for many years now... exactly BECAUSE of that reason! (Neither Party has ever indexed it for inflation, thus requiring repeated annual fixes.) Nothing whatsoever new there. (I expect that the main reason AMT has never been indexed is that the reduction in future government revenues that would produce would embarrass the politicians by turning already big deficits officially into even bigger deficits, and they would have to own up to that. I expect that is the reason AMT was never indexed during the Bush years.....)
