Bush and Cheney put maximum emphasis on tax breaks and easy permitting for drilling and production, then sat back and let the free market go where it would after that. The result was huge fleets of gas-guzzling SUVs, no NG vehicle development beyond buses, and no coherent future alternative energy except the ethanol madness.

While I don't agree with Obama's anti-carbon crusade 100%, the last guys didn't really get us anywhere sustainable either.

That's why I don't think this argument is a simple left-right proposition at all. But that's what all politics are reduced to nowadays.

Which is why we don't really get anywhere on a coherent energy policy.
