It's like the Clinch River Breeder Reactor all over again; screw our national needs - let's protect a worthless non-commercial 'snail darter' or something instead.

They could have built an air-conditioned Olympic swimming pool with a sand bottom and pet fish toys, carried in river water daily by hand, imported snails from Frogland, and hired midgets to massage the fish for 100 years - for the cost of one days delay of the CRBR project.

Political arsehole-ism personified..!!! Next, they will clone T-Rexs and let them loose in Yellowstone.

If California goes belly up you won't here about endangered species anymore. Once money stops flowing the environmentalists will eat endangered species. I always wondered why a judge or court somewhere didn't turn the water back on, especially considering the shape of the California economy.
