Cable & Wireless Communications Creates Digital Programming Featuring ACTV Virgin Records and Cable & Wireless Create Individualized Music Specials In Preparation For Digital Launch NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1997-- Spice Girls, Chemical Brothers and Rolling Stones Featured Cable & Wireless Communications, the UK's largest cable operator and Virgin Records, one of the world's preeminent record labels, have utilized ACTV Inc's (NASDAQ:IATV - news) proprietary programming technology to produce three television specials. The hour long programs, which feature the Spice Girls, Chemical Brothers and the Rolling Stones, will air when Cable & Wireless launches digital cable television next year. ''The programs' innovative use of technology with the very hot music content paves the way for further developments in digital television,'' said Danny Van Emden, head of marketing for Virgin Records. ''The cross-promotion and interweaving of content between the TV shows and the Virgin Web sites will, we hope, foster a sense of community among music fans, with the opportunity for a level of involvement not previously available.'' NextLevel Systems, Inc., a leading worldwide supplier of systems and components for high performance networks delivering video, voice and Internet/data services, will provide digital set top terminals to Cable & Wireless. Similar to NextLevel's digital terminal for the North American market, which features ACTV functionality, the Company's products for the UK will enable system operators to meet increasing consumer demand for improved picture and sound quality, expanded channel capabilities and interactive services. ACTV, through its ongoing relationship with the Sarnoff Corporation and NextLevel, has created a digital application which is fully compatible with, and adds no cost to, the NextLevel digital terminal. Furthermore, ACTV and NextLevel have signed an agreement to jointly market the ACTV programming service. Visit ACTV on the World Wide Web at actv.com .
