About 15 years ago wind mills started to appear in the area I live along the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. At first in the distance along a ridge a row of those mills looked majestic. The geography here is beautiful and the mills seemed to enhance its beauty.

Morph forward 15 years and now there are thousands of these windmills sticking up 450 feet in the air to the point of destroying the natural beauty of the river gorge along a stretch of 100 miles or so. Bottom line whether it is labeled "green" or not there is no free lunch when it comes to meeting energy demands of our economic and social systems.
