"'secular' is an utterly stupid word to describe 'long term'. Why
not just say long-term, specify how long, and be done with it?


The chief reason why "secular" sticks around is because it is only 7 letters long and has a certain similarily to the sound of the word "cyclical". I would have used the words "long term trend" and "short term trend" but I figured I was between Sylla and Charibdis [spelling alert]. <G>
