They were formerly known as IIT.
ESS bought MPEG technology buy buying IIT's spun off VideoCore group.

IIT changed its name to 8x8 and decided to focus on the Consumer Video Conferencing market.
They have their own Video Conferencing Decoders. No Cube connection.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1997--8x8, Inc. (NASDAQ:EGHT) -- a leading supplier of video conferencing technology and systems -- today announced that, effective November 10, 1997, NationsBanc Montgomery Securities, Inc., lead underwriter of 8x8's initial public offering, will release the lock-up restrictions on the remaining shares of 8x8 common stock subject to lock-up agreements.

This release will apply to an aggregate of approximately 9,200,000 shares of 8x8 common stock, including vested and unvested options. Upon the lock-up release, these shares may be sold, subject to vesting in the case of options and subject to the resale restrictions of the federal securities laws. Nearly all of the outstanding shares of 8x8 common stock will be eligible for sale into the public market upon such release.
