It's the opposite way around, Jeff. Shortsellers borrow shares from longs and
immediately sell them (causing down pressure), with intentions of covering them by
repurchasing the shares later (causing upwards pressure).

Are you sure? Isn't it the short selling that keeps a stock up? After all if the shorts started shorting ASND @$25 we wouldn't be going down! Right? But most likely they started covering, thus the decline...am I right?

What will the buy catalyst be?
It's interesting to note that the daily rate of change for price volatility in Ascend is at its best +15.6 points per day on 7/16/97, while the worst is -10.37 points per day set on 11/10/97. This would seem, considering the short interest in Ascend, that it might be turning toward on uptick buy phase with large upward potential.

When will the fear cycle end?
Can the world wide devaluation taking place affect the long term market value of previously well regarded technology shares such as Ascend? Do any economists see any reason to consider that the change of events may be a more long lived phenomena that won't correct itself in the short term future, and perhaps for maybe one to two years. I am beginning to wonder when this selling will end but really don't see any reason why the entire worldwide economic system of valuations decides to make every commodity cheaper to own and thus establish a new pricing paradigm that will last through this millenium. I am beginning to get skeptical and believe that it will be a long time before ASND breaks 30 (and yes I'm very long in ASND).

Just my 0.02.
