Yes if they start making money... expenses go up too unfortunately.. A mine in Canada earns in USD and pays in now higher loonies which has appreciated radically against USD... Was a problem for Canadian oil producers in 2008...

The South African miners used to pay generous dividends. If North American companies start to do so, it will be a huge change. But maybe shareholders could actually force them to do so.
