rsc,
Rather than a systemic type problem, I would like to think JMAR's slow or absent response is due to the fact that they are a small company with limited resources. Hopefully, they are too busy with expanding the business. I know you have posted on the CYMI thread so be careful, the paranoia over there may be contagious. :-)
Back on topic, I have gleamed from MF's evening news, that part of the problem with the disk drive industry is that they are being forced to get into MR technology sooner than anticipated. That sounds promising for Mirage. We know that JMAR is selling to IBM who makes their own heads. I am wondering where the workstations sold to FEI are going? Does anyone know anything about FEI and who their customers are? Also, has JMAR's 10-Q been filed yet?
Thanks,
Paul

I sent a couple faxes last week to mgmt complaining about the orchestrated selling and other matters. I thought it was time mgmt get their ears filled and get their act together. Sure enough after I got home thursday night there was a message on my machine. Its safe to say Mr. Martinez wasn't too happy with the "unfounded charges" he stated. He wanted me to call him back asap, but frankly was too upset last week to do anything. Bottom line was the CEO showed some backbone and since he called back shows he cares. Issues still need to be addressed and maybe someone with more patience could give the guy a call, but the past 2 weeks hasn't been good. First, if you look at that selling going on (whatever it was) it was occuring. Also, I still cannot figure out why the company did not have more revenue last quarter. If this can be explained by moving revenue out to subsequent quarters then "fine", but if not how do you explain getting a 4.25 million contract in May which was delivered in 90 days and not have more than 5.5 for the quarter!

I just spoke to Dennis Valentine. My original reason for calling was to find out whether the shift from MR to GMR would have any effect upon sales of the mirage, since according to JMAR's 11/5 statement, the PPL division was being given top priority. Dennis did not see the shift has having any effect.

Additionally I was requested to broach the following questions:

The cost of 1 mirage station?
The selling price (not cost) ranges between 50,000 and 80,000, depending upon add-ons.

How many disk heads can it trim/produce per day?
Don't know.

Life span of such a machine?
Don't know, but no problems since it was introduced in late '95.

Are there any replaceable parts that could add up to future business?
None to speak of.

Who are the competitors who make similair products?
I think he mentioned View Engineering, Ram, and one other. I'm not familiar with these companies and so may have misheard or misspelled.

How big do they see this market to be for 1998?
Millions
