Yes, in the late 80's early 90's I held property in tree growth and it worked out fine as well. But not quite the tax deal your dad got. :0)

Your dad's experience on his 50-year agreement spanned the period between 1940 and 2010 at best -- times, taxation rates, honorable agreements with the government, and the financial underpinnings of the US are vastly different today.

Today state taxation at 10-cents per acre seems unrealistic to me -- seriously unrealistic. Percent of stumpage -- I have no clue.
