LOL, a great examples from times gone.

I recall feeding our IBM 7090 decks of Fortran cards at college. Sure, our mainframe was updated to 7094 before I finally finished my MSc EE - but the card decks still remained.

We also had our DASK and BESK machines (Danish and Swedish) running Algol from punched tape and I recall our teacher reading those tapes by just looking at them while holding a couple of feet between his hands, just like we read books...
