Bummer

Nice picture of a Washington State ferry. I've ridden them all in my 58 years from time to time. Last time on one was about a year ago.

Unfortunately "it" (they) don't go to my island home. None do.

Try again.

:)

I can tell you exactly where that picture was taken from. Lopez island with Mt. Baker in the backround. In the forground is Blakely Island and Orcas (ferry served) is on the left.

Stuart Island where one of my homes is is approximatly 12 nautical miles to the NNW behind the ferry out of the picture.

Hope that helps you on where the shot was taken.

Here's a link for ya.

islandcam.com

A live web cam looking towards Stuart Island (the distant bump just right of center in the distance through the gap between the islands).

Roche Harbor is the most famous private marina in the Northwest. It used to be the "largest lime kiln west of the Mississippi River" in the late 1800's. It closed in about 1957 and a few years later became a very popular marine destination in the San Juan Islands on San Juan island. The camera is mounted on Hotel De Haro which Teddy Roosevelt stayed in in 1903. They have kept the hotel all original from it's late 1800's days.

Next time I'm up there entertaining friends for dinner and cocktails I'll let you know. I can be on the dock waving so you can see us!

I need to use my Droid X and get my moneys worth out of it!

There are only four islands served by the Washington State Ferry system out of roughly 165 total islands in the area.
