It's just so unfair that Alaska gets more Coast Guard funding than, say, South Dakota. Why should the entire country have to pay for rescuing the fishermen who catch their dinner?

As I said to Kate, I don't object to the fact that some states pay more in and some take more out. It's just the way it is. I was trying (clumsily) to make the point that the differences work to the advantage of the economy of a state like Arkansas, and to the disadvantage of a state like California.
